West Hollywood Parks Transform Into Dog-Friendly Fitness Hubs
West Hollywood residents use off-leash zones for group workouts that combine dog exercise with human fitness classes.
How we reported this
West Hollywood Park on Fountain Avenue now hosts daily group sessions where owners run drills with their dogs at 7 a.m. before shifting into bodyweight circuits on the grass near the tennis courts.
The trend gained momentum this summer because many locals seek low-cost outdoor options after indoor gym memberships rose above $180 a month at facilities along Santa Monica Boulevard. City planners added shaded benches and water stations for dogs in 2025 to support the shift.
Two active locations
At West Hollywood Park the off-leash area opens at sunrise and draws trainers from the WeHo Wellness Coalition who lead 45-minute classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Participants pay a $12 drop-in fee that covers both the fitness instruction and a dog-waste station refill. Further west on Santa Monica Boulevard the fenced dog run at the Kings Road green space hosts Saturday morning agility drills followed by yoga flows that end at 9 a.m.
Both sites sit within a short walk of residential blocks in the Norma Triangle neighborhood so residents can reach them without driving. The parks connect via the city’s bike lane network installed in 2023.
Attendance figures and costs
City of West Hollywood park-use logs for the second quarter of 2026 show 4,200 combined dog-and-human check-ins at the two locations, up from 2,900 during the same period in 2025. The Parks and Recreation Department reported that 68 percent of participants joined repeat sessions after their first visit.
Residents who want to try the routine can check the city website for the current weekly schedule or arrive at either park gate before the posted start times. Water bowls and waste bags remain stocked at both entrances throughout the day.
