Liberty Park, situated at Wilshire and Hoover, has emerged as a community mainstay for people looking to get moving with their dogs in tow. Early risers are greeted by the sight of dog yoga circles coordinated by the Koreatown Paw Fitness Meetup, and in the afternoons, the shaded benches fill with people watching casual frisbee games and group HIIT classes. Organizers say their free Saturday group jog-open to anyone with a leashed pup-sometimes draws upwards of 40 owners, many of whom met at the park for the first time. Liberty Park’s free-use basketball courts and the walking circuit around Seoul International Park make it straightforward for locals to fit in a workout before or after socializing at the dog run.
Parking at both parks remains free, and the Koreatown Neighborhood Council continues to advocate for more public seating and extended off-leash hours-proposals scheduled for discussion at the August 14 meeting at Wilshire Plaza.
