West Hollywood Budget Sets Infrastructure Funds for Local Jobs and Road Work

The West Hollywood City Council approved the fiscal year 2026-27 budget on July 7 that includes dedicated spending on street repairs and job training tied to those projects.

The measure follows the release of the city's annual public works assessment, which identified 12 miles of local roadways needing immediate attention. City documents list the spending under the Public Works Department line items rather than general operations.

Jobs tied to specific projects

Under the adopted budget the city will spend $3.5 million on pavement rehabilitation along Santa Monica Boulevard between La Cienega and Fairfax. The same document projects that contractors must meet a 30 percent local-hire target for the work, which is expected to produce 85 construction and maintenance positions filled by West Hollywood residents.

Separate workforce development funding of $820,000 will expand the existing city job-training partnership with the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The program covers certification courses in traffic control and equipment operation that run at the Plummer Park community center.

Changes to services and daily costs

Residents who drive or use transit on the repaired corridors will see crews begin work in August. The schedule calls for overnight lane closures on Santa Monica Boulevard to limit daytime disruption to bus routes and delivery access. The budget also adds two full-time code enforcement positions to monitor construction zones and handle resident complaints about noise or detours.

Implementation steps listed in the budget resolution require the city manager to issue bid requests by the end of July and to report hiring numbers to the council in October. No new taxes are included in the funding plan; the allocations come from existing general fund reserves and state transportation grants already received.
