CCUSD Weighs Position Reductions as Board Eyes Next Steps on Funding
The district confronts immediate choices on staffing and revenue measures to close ongoing shortfalls.
How we reported this
The Culver City Unified School District Board is considering the elimination of 24 positions for the 2026-27 school year, with 15 of those roles held by certificated staff and nine by classified employees.
The proposal surfaces as the district works to close budget gaps that have already prompted emergency support from city leaders. A unanimous City Council vote delivered $2.5 million in one-time funding to help the district meet minimum financial standards this year. That infusion followed earlier steps, including the June 24, 2024 approval of Dr. Jimenez as the next superintendent and the March 14, 2025 adoption of a new English Learner Master Plan that updated reclassification rules and added the Pathways to Biliteracy Program.
Current Enrollment and Program Snapshot
For the 2025-26 school year the district reports 6,568 students enrolled, of whom 527, or 8.0 percent, are identified as English Language Learners. Instruction across district schools began August 20. These figures arrive alongside ongoing work on Measure E projects that have completed roofing at four elementary sites and Culver City Middle School, with more than $22 million spent or committed by March 31, 2025.
The same period has seen renewed attention to a potential progressive parcel tax on the November 2026 ballot, framed as one route to address an operational shortfall estimated near $6 million in annual cuts.
Decisions Ahead on Staffing and Revenue
Board members must now determine which positions, if any, will be removed and how remaining resources will support the English Learner Master Plan and existing instructional programs. At the same time, district leaders continue preparations for the 2026 ballot measure that could alter long-term funding stability. Residents can track developments through upcoming board meetings and the district’s public budget documents posted on its website.
